Claud Syms Scott (1901-1983)

Claud Syms Scott was born on the 31st August 1901, in Brentwood, Essex to Claud Syms Scott, a mechanical engineer working for an oil company, and his wife Margaret Elizabeth Evans.

Claud achieved a B.A at Trinity College, Oxford and went on to study for the ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He was ordained a deacon at St Mary Redcliff, Bristol, on the 3rd October 1926 and from there went on to be curate at St Luke, Bedminster until 1930. He was ordained a priest in 1927. In 1928 he was living in Knowle, Bristol, until mid 1931 when he moved to Ipswich. He later became curate-in-charge of All Hallows' District of Ipswich for 8 and a half years. On 31st March 1938 he was instituted and inducted to be vicar of Exning with Landwade, Suffolk. He was also Rural Dean of Newmarket and chairman of the Newmarket Urban District Council. On the 28th October 1954 he was instituted as the first Rector of the united benefices of Stradbroke with Horham and Athelington.

In 1930 Claud married Grace M. Savory in Bristol.

In 1962 Claud was instituted and inducted Vicar of the united benefices of Hoxne and Denham.

In 1971 they left Hoxne.

Claude and his wife retired to Reydon, Suffolk. Claud died there on the 14th October 1983, age 82 and his wife Grace died the following March.
